Just finished Lady Friday.
I feel a little... disappointed.
First a little background info:
I won't go into too much plot detail but basically there are seven trusties called the Morrow Days and each of them holds a part of the Will. Each of the Morrow Days represents one of the seven deadly sins and each part of the Will is one of the seven heavenly virtues. The author doesn't actually say any of this and it wasn't until after I read the third book I noticed It. So far it has gone like this:
Mister Monday= Sloth
Grim Tuesday= Greed
Drowned Wednesday= Gluttony
Sir Thursday= Wrath
Now I had predicted that of the last three Morrow Days Lady Friday would be lust, Superior Saturday would be pride, and Lord Sunday would be envy.
These are "young adult" books so I was interested how he would portray lust and was excited about this volume. However I found it to be kinda dull. One of the definitions of lust is "a passionate or overmastering desire or craving" which could still be pretty interesting but in the end I just don't feel like the author was trying very hard. Lady Friday was barely even in the book and I wasn't even sure if she was indeed lust until the conclusion (which by the way wasn't very climactic).
I also noticed that the virtue for each part of the Will doesn't properly match up with the right sin. Each virtue is supposed to be the opposite of a sin so it would make sense for each of the Morrow Days to be holding their counter part virtue. However they do not.
Overall I don't feel like this was a terrible book but I wasn't really pulled in by it. I still enjoy the series as a whole and I hope that the next two books will be more engaging.
