So last night I had this sudden urge to go watch a bunch of sci-fi movies. While making a list of ones I wanted to go rent, I realized that I've never seen all of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Like I've seen clips of it but not the entire thing.
I just finished watching it and I'm sad to say I'm kinda disappointed.
It's such a classic movie and I feel like I should appreciate it but I just didn't like it very much. The first third was just boring. I know they're setting up the story and giving important information but I found myself zoning out quite often. The second third was good but too rushed. Dave and the other dude have zero personality and I honestly didn't care whether they died or not. HAL was the only remotely interesting character in the entire film and he gets wacked off way too quickly. The last third of the movie is just like watching a screen saver for 15 minutes.
Overall, it was too artsy for me. I mean, artsy can be good when you're in the right mood but I wanted something more suspenseful.
Let's see if Alien can live up to my expectations.
